Info-bookmarklet

A Fancy Schmancy Bookmarklet

Access all the emoticons you've hoarded in a handy-dandy bookmarklet that pops up on any site you visit so you can flip a table everytime it's necessary. We're building Safari, Chrome, and Firefox plugins too. Maybe even IE!

What else is coming?

Tons. We (well, mostly I) built this site to catalog all the neat ways people online (and off) are using emoticons given the freedom we now have with ascii/unicode support on most websites/browsers/phones, in hopes of expanding our collective knowledge of these fine linguistic tools. There's a gigantic, poorly organized list of tasks and features we want to add, including things like an API, browser extensions, mobile apps, limited edition t-shirts and skateboard decks, huge Hollywood parties with performances by Taylor Swift and Kanye West, a huge Rilakkuma plush mounted atop a RC blimp we can fly around the office, and funky little emoticon candies, all of which we'll get to if the time ever comes :). So hang in there, holler at us, and spread the word on this dapper little project.

Caveats (for you nerds)

Some issues that I've come across building and using this that you may claim victim to:

  • A proper typeface for Linux-based OSes (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, etc) that handles all this unicode isn't in the font stack due to lack of testing time/resources.
  • Haven't worked out kinks on mobile/tablet browsers yet. Bare with me :3.
  • Multi-line emoticons are possible, just avoiding adding them for now to reduce complications with displaying them, but they'll be in here eventually.
  • Fixed-width emoticons, similar to above, will also be added once proper appropriations in the code have been made.
